Pleasure Raft is back with a new single on Celebration Records
Pleasure Raft is the new musical output for Mathias Barfod, former lead singer in ‘The Attic Sleepers’. Where his former band The Attic Sleepers left, Pleasure Raft continues in a more rocking and energetic direction. The songs are based on his own personal stories and experiences and range from grandiose and spherical songs to small minimalist ballads.
Pleasure Raft was formed in 2017 and has released the self-titled EP in 2019 and two singles which is taken from his forthcoming debut album.
The new single ‘Maybe I Was Wrong’ is written from a diary of dreams Mathias wrote in the summer of 2021 shortly after a bad breakup with his now ex-girlfriend.
“My dreams at the time had a huge impact on my waking hours and general mood. So I decided to write down all my dreams to get them out of my system. At first I had no intention that any of them should end up as songs on my forthcoming album, but the dreams were just so vivid that it felt completely wrong to not let them become more than dreams written down in my diary. One of my recurring dreams from that period was of me driving 100 mph in a car with no windows, doors or engine. Another dream was me playing board games with my ex where I always came out on top. The music was created largely in conjunction with the lyrics and only took 10-15 min. before the music and lyrics connected,” Mathias explains.
lyrics
When I fell to the floor
I caught a glimpse
Blinked it out
Swept it under the couch
My thoughts got chained to the walls
While driving your card
With the doors left out
Maybe I was wrong
When I heard you cry fake love
Maybe I was wrong
But I’m sure I can dry you off
Maybe I was wrong
At least not delusional
Maybe I was wrong
But I know about your skeletons
Maybe I ought,
I ought to let loose
And scream that the love that you burned
Was too hard and frozen
Trust me
I’ll sleep through the rumbling noise
While riding in your car
With the windows down
Maybe I was wrong
When I heard you cry fake love
Maybe I was wrong
But I’m sure I can dry you off
Maybe I was wrong
At least not delusional
Maybe I was wrong
But I know about your skeletons
Maybe I was wrong
But I know that the dice I’ve rolled
The second you tore us apart
Will bring you back to start
It gives me the chills to slowly invert
And learn that the heartbreak you yearned
Wasn’t pure and simple
Like mine
I’ll sleep through the rumbling sound
While riding in your car
With the engines off
Maybe I was wrong
When I heard you cry fake love
Maybe I was wrong
But I’m sure I can dry you off
Maybe I was wrong
At least not delusional
Maybe I was wrong
But I know about your skeletons
Maybe I was wrong
Maybe I was wrong
Maybe I was wrong
Maybe I was wrong
Maybe I was wrong
But I know that the dice I’ve rolled
The second you tore us apart
Will bring you back to start
